When
Jesus told the disciples how serious the marriage relationship is in
God's sight, they said if that's the case, it's better not to marry (Matthew 19:3-12). His
response was that not everyone can receive that saying, but only those
to whom it is given. He said there are some eunuchs who are born
eunuchs, some who are made eunuchs by men, and some who live like eunuchs for the sake of God's kingdom. He said if you
can receive the saying, receive it, but that not all can receive it.
In
1 Corinthians 7:1-9, Paul thought it was better not to marry at that time,
because of the present distress. However, he said not all men have the
gift of remaining single, and that it's better to marry than to burn. If
you burn, and you don't marry, you will certainly fall into sin and
immorality. Even if you have the gift of remaining single, it's not sin
to marry. If you burn, then you should marry.
